Life at Pyareo

October 16th, 2011 by tibor No comments »

What makes Pyareo different from typical assisted-living places? There is a sense of peace and tranquility that can be felt when entering Pyareo Home. Pyareo was grown as an offshoot of the Sant Bani Community, celebrates all denominations, is smoke, alcohol and drug free, and upholds the belief that all life should be revered.  The diet is vegetarian – not strictly vegan, but can easily accommodate a vegan diet.

Delicious, healthy, home-cooked meals are made using organic food, sometimes grown in our own garden. Even the whole wheat bread is homemade! These days, a healthy diet, especially for the later years, is playing an important role in our life choices. The price is competitive and people get so much — personally, physically and spiritually–when they come to Pyareo.

Our capable staff: a nurse, LNAs, aides and cooks choose to work at Pyareo because the workplace is unlike any other assisted-living place. They enjoy the family-like atmosphere where everyone has the time to get to know and love the people they are caring for. For us, growing old is sacred; a natural and blessed time of life. We have an understanding and respect for what it means to leave one’s home.

We know how hard it is to make the decision to seek help outside of one’s own space. Thus, at Pyareo, we strive to ease this transition for both residents and families. We want to create a sense of independence through interdependence and appreciation for one’s life history and wisdom.

The essence of what we do at Pyareo is to provide loving physical and emotional support to maintain dignified and productive lives to the end.  We honor our residents and caregivers who help us fulfill this mission.

“Our mother, Glenys, loved the daily company of care givers and neighborhood visitors of all ages at Pyareo.  She also appreciated the privacy to listen to morning radio and watch the Red Sox that her private room afforded.  We were grateful to know such a capable, caring staff was looking after her.  And the food?  ”Yum yum!” she would say!”   – Elizabeth Soychak

Residents’ Rooms

Each of the bedrooms has a private bathroom and an adjacent patio where the dear ones can tend their own flowers and plants and enjoy the natural surroundings. Residents may bring their small pets to live with them.

Interior Spaces

Inside the main meeting area is a large great room where residents can walk around for exercise, where we hold social gatherings and where meals are served. There, we have a beautiful atrium with a uniquely designed fish pond and waterfall.

Tall ceilings and skylights give our home a warm, light and open feeling the year round. An efficient kitchen, a sunroom, the seven residents’ rooms, a guest room and meditation room open off the central great room. A green-house greets us near the main entrance and our laundry room is in the back–those who can are welcome to do their own laundry.

“Pyareo Home stands out as an example of practicing the principles of respect for every human being, regardless of their status in life. It has been a pleasure to assist those running the home in their efforts and I look forward to continuing to do so in the future.” - Dr. Michael Mayo-Smith

Site and Gardens

Our building is all on one level, encircled by a walkway for warm weather strolls. There is an organic vegetable garden in the back with benches to sit and enjoy. For those who are able, there is a path into the woods by a bubbling brook.

“I want to extend a heartfelt thank-you to all who support the vision of Pyareo Home, and especially to those who have entrusted their loved ones to our care. I can truly say I have gained more than I have given –  and that is a rare gift indeed.”
- Gina Matty, aide

Summer 2011 Newsletter is available!

August 17th, 2011 by tibor No comments »

The Summer 2011 Newsletter has just been published and sent to everyone on our mailing list.  Peter Bacon’s lead article offers respectful remembrance of three residents who have passed away in the last several months. He also mentions the financial difficulties that the vacancies create at Pyareo Home. There are articles by three aides, Wendy Hobbs (our administrator) and others.

We hope you enjoy this issue. If you don’t have a paper copy, check out an electronic version of it in Acrobat format. Pictures in the electronic version are in color, but other than that, the two versions are identical. (This is a large file, so downloads may be slow).

If you would like newsletters to be automatically sent to you by email, please send us a note to shipp@pyareohome.org .
